ANDREW LyKO
Contemporary Fine Artist from Los Angeles, California
EARLY LIFE AND INSPIRATION
Hello, my name is Lyko, aka One Dope Kid. My journey as an artist began in the vibrant streets of Los Angeles, California. As a Mexican-American youth, I turned to street art to navigate the challenges of my environment and avoid the violence that surrounded me. My earliest inspirations came from cartoons, which opened a door of creativity that forever changed my perception of the world.
To me, a cartoon character is as real as anything else in life; it's a way to keep my youthful spirit alive and pull magic from those worlds into my creations.
ARTISTIC STYLE
My artworks utilize acrylic, oil bar, and spray paint, blending these mediums in a natural, intuitive way to tell my truth. Growing up in Southern California, I was deeply influenced by urban street culture. My teenage years were spent breakdancing, spray-painting, and exploring the world around me. These experiences infuse my art with a raw, energetic narrative that resonates with many generations.
PHILOSOPHY + VISION
I tap into the collective consciousness of all ages to bring forth the youthful energy that many adults lose over time. I believe that by keeping the heart young and alive, the rest of the body follows, enabling a high-frequency lifestyle. My life’s work is dedicated to leaving behind a timeless story that not only tells my own journey but also inspires others to come alive through art. My paintings are more than just visual pieces; they are experiences meant to evoke the emotion and energy I was living in within the tapestry of life.
CURRENT WORK + LEGACY
My work continues to evolve through a series of works, capturing raw energy and deep emotion, reflecting my growth and the intensity of my experiences. Early in my career, I was noticed and represented by one of the biggest private art dealers in the world, with over 30+ years of experience and a vast network in the art world. Today, my art hangs on the same walls as renowned artists such as KAWS, Murakami, Damien Hirst, Brett Crawford, and Matt Gondek. I am actively connecting with collectors, attending various events, and building a network that appreciates and supports my vision.
I’m painting my story while I’m still here..
